Tankbund-Hussain Sagar


Hussain Sagar is a large lake in the midst of the city and was constructed in 1562 A.D. The Tank Bund links the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The broad road on the bund is lined with lawns and 33 statues of famous personalities of the State stand along the bund of the lake. The well laid out Lumbini park located in the Buddha Purnima project has a musical fountain.

Buddha Statue at the Hussain Sagar:
The 16 meter tall, 350 tonne monolithic colossus rises high from the placid waters of the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake. The statue of Lord Buddha is placed on the rock of Gibraltar in the middle of the Lake.

Hussain sagar lake around which the city spread is commonly called as Tank bund, was built on a tributary of the Musi during the reign of Ibrahim Qutb Shah in 1562. The dam is fed by the Balkapur river which branches off from the Musi about 32 miles from Hyderabad.
